Orchid Study

For the past week or so, I have been obsessed with the orchid flower! Constantly studying its intricate parts and thinking up different ways to capture such a beautiful plant. Did you know they've been around for over 100 million years and many don't use photosynthesis but often obtain food from fungi at their roots?!

I began simple in my first image, including the entire plant in the spot it sits most days soaking up a little C. I just turned it and the flowers are turning towards the sun again, faster than I thought!

In my next photo, I took a closer look. Using the sun as my light source and creating a dark background to really highlight the bright white that this flower shines.

In order to hold the plant I used a small metal wire, which in turn created an interesting line that helps to display the symmetry within the flower.

One of my goals of this study was to capture the subject in multiple different angles and create an abstract view of the flower. I love the way you can almost see through the petals.

I love blue and red hues and try my best to bring them together in my photosgraphs, because of the cool and warm tones.
